How FDA Aims to Increase Food Safety

With the number of food import lines increasing every year, the use of the best predictive and analytical tools can ensure quality and protect consumers against risks. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as a part of the “New Era of Smarter Food Safety”, is deploying the technology like AI and machine learning to streamline the inspection process for imported foods. The new pilot program uses artificial intelligence, which is being launched by the FDA that improves monitoring of food-borne illness risk. It also considers establishing a blockchain network to track food for the same purpose as the agency announces.

To improve the monitoring of food-borne illnesses by increasing food traceability, FDA is utilizing blockchain and distributed ledger technologies. With these enhanced techniques, the tracking of medicinal products throughout the supply chain will improve, making it possible for agencies to confirm the origin of contaminated food just minutes after an outbreak, rather than days or weeks.

As a part of its initiative to create a safe and transparent food system across the nation, the FDA has proposed ideas for collaborating with for e-commerce food delivery models and implementing of the sensor system and IoT.
